  • Rare One-Off Hand-Forged Lamongan Garden Hoe – 22 cm Blade – Built for Sticky Clay Soils

    Rp660,000.00

The Lamongan hoe by Slatung workshop features a gently concave blade made for sticky clay soils. Built with a thick, ultra-durable reinforced rim (terekan) forged via Slatung’s technique, this unique 22 cm (8.7 in) edition is a rare, one-off piece—offering greater soil-moving capacity while maintaining superior control.

    Description

Some tools are designed in factories. This one was shaped by generations of experience.

The Lamongan hoe is already different from common hoes because it was developed for the region’s dense and hardened soils. Its rounded, gently concave blade profile with a tapered cutting edge was refined to penetrate compacted earth more efficiently and bite into hard soil with less effort.

The Slatung workshop is located within one of Lamongan’s more challenging clay-farming areas, where the soil is not only dense and hard but also exceptionally sticky. Working under these conditions, farmers from the surrounding area have relied on this workshop for hoe repair and adjustment, even when other blacksmiths were available nearby. This practical experience helped further refine the blade profile to handle heavy clay while allowing sticky soil to release more easily from the blade.

    Special One-Off Piece:

While standard sizes in this collection range from 21 cm up to 24 cm, this specific 22 cm (8.7 in) blade size is a rare exception—only a single unit was forged in this dimension, making it a unique collectible for tool enthusiasts. It provides an ideal mid-size balance, offering greater soil-moving capacity than the 21 cm model while remaining highly nimble.

Unlike thin, factory-stamped hoes, the Lamongan hoe features a distinctive concave blade with a gently rounded profile and a tapered cutting edge. This traditional geometry allows the blade to bite into the soil with less effort while moving soil efficiently. It is built with a thick, heavy-duty reinforced rim (terekan) forged using Slatung’s secret blacksmithing technique, paired with a reinforced upper blade for maximum durability, extra strength, and optimal balance during regular cultivation.

    Ideal for:

    Cultivating garden beds

    Breaking up compacted soil

    Weeding

    Hilling and shaping beds

    General soil preparation

Each hoe is individually hand-forged, so subtle variations in finish, hammer marks, and dimensions are part of its authentic character. No two pieces are exactly alike.

Please note: This hoe is designed for soil cultivation. It is not intended for striking rocks, concrete, or cutting large roots. For heavily rocky ground, a pick mattock or other dedicated digging tool is more appropriate.
